Michal Polanowski (POL-16,
Starboard, Neil Pryde) from Poland
is the best Espoir in the Euro-Cup
2003. With two second places he
proved that he has the potential
for a podium position. At the end
he has 468 points. With a more
consistent performance he even has
the chance to become a future
Euro-Cup Champion.

- The year 2003 has brought another great
season for the Windsurfing Euro-Cup. Two
events had to be cancelled due to budget
problems of the local organizers. But a
total of 7 regattas produced a valid
result for the annual ranking list of the
Euro-Cup which gave the competitors three
discards. A total of over 200 different
competitors took part in the events which
ensured the leading role of the
Windsurfing Euro-Cup as the most important
racing series of the World.
The Polish dominator Wojtek Brzozowski
(POL-10, Starboard, Neil Pryde) had to
finalize his exams at the university this
year. Non the less he presented a
breathtaking performance. Wojtek was only
able to take part in 4 regattas in the
season 2003. But he won 3 of them and
scored one fourth place. This results in a
total of 477 points which gives the
Euro-Cup Champion of 2001 the triumph to
win back “his title” with a lead of 2
points.
Steve Allen (AUS-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde,
475 points) is the Euro-Cup Champion of
2002 ans was the hardest opponent of
Wojtek. Most of the season it seemed as if
the Australian would be able to defend his
title as he won two events and was leading
the annual ranking list almost all the
time. Steve Allen presented a strong and
consistent performance that made it
difficult for the guys on his heels to
hope for weak moments. But at the last
event he was caught by Wojtek Brzozowski.
Michal Polanowski (POL-16, Starboard, Neil
Pryde) from Poland is the best Espoir in
the Euro-Cup 2003. With two second places
he proved that he has the potential for a
podium position. At the end he has 468
points. With a more consistent performance
he even has the chance to become a future
Euro-Cup Champion.
The top-5 are completed by another Polish
rider: Aleks Grynis (POL-86, Starboard,
Neil Pryde) didn’t score a single top-3
result but his consistent performance
ensured his 5th place with 465 points in
the end of the season. He was unlucky at
many regattas which hindered to finish in
an even better position in the end.
The Manufacturers Rankings of the
Windsurfing Euro-Cup have become one of
the most prestigious platforms for the
windsurfing industry. All the top brands
hope for good results and send their best
competitors to the events. For the media
and the customers the Manufacturers
Ranking is a reliable base to judge the
competitive performance of a manufacturer.
On the boards side we saw a great head to
head fight between Starboard and Fanatic.
After 4 events Fanatic had the lead but
then Starboard was able to accelerate and
won the last three events which ensured
that the designer Svein Rasmussen was able
to take again the most prestigious title
of “Euro-Cup Manufacturers Champion –
Boards”. Fanatic won a lot of sympathy
and credit with its brave fight and will
be in a strong starting position for the
coming season. The third place was won by
F2 who presented a solid performance and
celebrated their return into the league of
the competitive brands beating “big
names” like Mistral and AHD.
In the competition of the sail brands Neil
Pryde was able to dominate the other
brands completely. They won all seven
events this year and the top-7 racers of
the Euro-Cup use Neil Pryde sails. In the
Manufacturers ranking Neil Pryde has the
maximum of 480 points and a clear lead in
front of the next opponent. Gaastra was
able to defend a clear second place but
never reached the level to attack the
dominator Neil Pryde. The main reason for
this was a clear lack of strong racers to
weaken the Neil Pryde armada. Hopefully
Gaastra will increase its investment into
the Euro-Cup in the future to provide a
harder challenge. The third position went
to YES Sails. The Italian manufacturer
presented a great fight and managed to
beat global players like North Sails and
Gun Sails.
We congratulate the Windsurfing Euro-Cup
Champions 2003!
